Field Trial Titles

The following definitions are brief excerpts of requirements for title designations. Please refer to the Official United Kennel Club Pointing Dog Rule Book, effective August 1, 2016 for detailed specific rules.

Note: The title designation is placed before the dog's name on UKC registration records until a higher title or championship designation is earned.

• HUNT

A dog in the Gun Class which earns three (3) award qualifications of PASS (Very Good), such award classifications being inclusive of EXCELLENT (“EXC”, formerly Passes with Honor) or inclusive of a sole RCAG (Reserve Certificate of Achievement to Gun Title) in UKC licensed field trials, shall be awarded the UKC title of Hunting Dog; such title shall be designated as HUNT.

• GUN

A dog in the Gun Class which earns three (3) award classifications of PASS (Very Good) or better, such award classifications being inclusive of Excellent, EXC - ( formerly Passes with Honor) and which three (3) total award classifications must include at least one Certificate of Achievement to Gun Title (CAG) or in the alternative two of which award classifications must include Reserve Certificate of Achievement To Gun Title (RCAG) award classifications in UKC Gun Class licensed field trials, shall be awarded the UKC Pointing Dog title of Gun Dog; such title shall be designated as GUN.

• TRIALER

A dog competing in the Open Class which has earned and been awarded a total of three (3) award classifications of PASS (Very Good)- or better in the Open Class, such passes being inclusive of any Excellent EXC ( formerly Pass with Honor) award classifications in the Open Class; one (1) of which award classifications must be Certificate of Achievement to Championship Title (CAC) in the Open Class, or in the alternative two (2) of which award classifications must be Reserve Certificate of Achievement to Championship Title (RCAC) in the Open Dog Class shall be awarded the UKC Pointing Dog title of Trialer; such title shall be designated as TR.

• CHAMPION OF THE FIELD, CHAMPION OF THE FIELD-WILD, and CHAMPION OF THE FIELD-LIBERATED

A dog competing in the Open Class which has earned and been awarded a total of three (3) award classifications of Certificate of Achievement to Championship (CAC) in the Open Class as further specified herein shall be awarded the UKC Pointing Dog title and designated as a Champion of the Field, with a specific designation of CHF, CHF-W or CHF-L.

Champion of the Field (CHF) Based On Award Qualifications Earned in Both Type (W) and Type (L) Field Trials.

• GRAND CHAMPION OF THE FIELD

A dog competing in the Open Class which has earned and been awarded a total of five (5) award classifications of Certificate of Achievement to Championship Title (CAC) in the Open Class, shall be awarded the UKC title and designated as a Grand Champion of the Field (GRCHF). The UKC title designation GRCHF shall be placed before the dog's name on the Permanent Registration records.

Show Titles

Each dog is examined by the judge in a posed position and must also gait in a pattern to allow the judge to evaluate its efficiency of movement.

• NATIONAL BEST OF BREED

A dog winning the National Best of Breed award at a national Conclave Show.

• CHAMPION

Dogs must earn a minimum of 100 championship points, earn points under at least three different UKC licensed Judges, and win three Best Male/Female (or higher) classes with competition at three different shows under three different UKC licensed Judges.

• GRAND CHAMPION

Dogs must win the Champion class at least five times with competition and win the Champion class under at least three different UKC licensed Judges.
